Weekend Open Thread: Ouch!

It’s been pretty quiet around these parts this week, thanks in large part to real life. Disconcur‘s Appendix decided that 11pm on a Tuesday night would be a brilliant time to send him off to the Emergency Ward. It was fun trying to load a dead to the world four year old and a grown man hunched over in agony into the car…not. That night I certainly missed my family and friends from back home. I felt awful for dumping my husband at Emergency and then coming home, but we had no choice.

Aside from the initual challenge of getting him to the hospital, everything else went smoothly. The doctors got his Appendix out before it had a chance to rupture, so he was only in hospital for two nights. Aside from some wicked looking wounds from his surgery, he’s on the up and up and things are slowly returning to normal around here.

If you haven’t thought about what you will do in a medical emergency, I would suggest checking out this post by Childhood 101. I was certainly very happy that I only have one child that night! I couldn’t imagine juggling two or more kids in a crisis like that…or in general, really.

Welcome to the Weekend Open Thread; a place where you can reflect on the events of the week, chat about your weekend plans, or just get something off your chest. Need help getting the conversation started? Who do you turn to when disaster strikes?

It’s funny because I am on the opposite end of the stick usually, and never really think about what families have to do to get into hospital.  But I”m glad it turned out ok.  I was a bit surprised to hear it to be honest!

Navimie Ah, of course! It’s just another day at work really, isn’t it? The surgeon had said that if it hadn’t ruptured and they didn’t have to cut him open then recovery would be a lot easier, but I certainly wasn’t expecting a call less than 24 hours after having it removed to come and collect him either! Good ol’ Alice Springs and their bed shortage…
