The Liebster Awards

I’m feeling just a little bit loved today, you guys! Amanda from Geekphoria has nominated me for a Liebster Award. Yay! But, uh, what exactly is a Liebster Award? Well, I’ll shamelessly steal the quote Amanda stole from Brooke let the Liebster folks explain:

Well, it is only an AWESOME award given to up and coming bloggers. Given by other up and coming bloggers. It’s a cool way to find other blogs and feel like you are getting into the blogging stratosphere. It is simple, you get nominated by someone else, mention their page and a linkΒ to their blog in your Liebster Award Post, answer the 11 questions they give you, then tag 11 other nominees and give them a new set of 11 questions to answer.”

Well, that’s just a little bit cool! I’m very honoured to be asked to participate, and hopefully the folks I nominate will be just as thrilled as I was. But first, my answers!

If you were trapped inside a video game for the rest of your life, which game would you want it to be?

I think I would have to choose World of Warcraft, if only for the sheer size of the world and the variety of things I could keep myself occupied with.

Which spaceship would you like to explore the universe in?

Definitely Moya from Farscape! The idea of a living ship absolutely fascinates me, and thanks to the crew, there would never be a dull moment!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started your blog?

While growing your audience the ‘organic’ way is definitely possible, it would have been so much easier had I invested in some marketing. I really wish I had have invested more in building my blog back when I actually had spare money for such things.

If you could have any mythical animal as a friend/pet/companion, what would it be and why?

Hmm, tough one! Um, probably a unicorn. Or a Pegasus, so I could, like, fly and stuff.

(This lack of imagination is why I don’t write fiction)

What fictional world is your home away from home?

Currently my fictional home away from home is Westeros, as I’m reading through book two of Game of Thrones.

(Yes, in addition to a distinct lack of imagination, I am the world’s slowest book reader.)

If you could be any fictional character for a day, who would it be?

I would probably choose Samantha Carter from Stargate SG:1. Who wouldn’t want to be a brilliant scientist who gets to kick ass, travel the stars and pal around with O’Neill, Teal’c and Jackson?!

Stargate SG-1

What daily (or semi-daily) activity/chore do you wish you could get by without doing?

Getting out of bed at a time that is not of my choosing. I need my sleep, and this whole, “Waking up at 7.30am” thing is just not what it’s cracked up to be! Alas, someone needs to get the child ready for school.

What is your number one pet peeve?

I have written about a few of my pet peeves before, but number one would have to be my son creeping into our bed at night. Between my husband who loves to spread right out, my growing belly and a boy who has figured out that Mummy is a sucker for snuggles, I can’t remember the last time I had a full night of uninterrupted sleep.

If you had to pick an apocalypse, which one would you pick?

Anything but a zombie apocalypse. I freakin’ hate zombies!

What job did you want as a kid? What job would you want if you didn’t have to worry about making a living?

My childhood dreams varied from Marine Biologist, Astronaut and an officer in the Army. In the end, I became a Web Consultant for my own start up. This covers the second part of the question quite nicely, because I absolutely love it but am barely making a living from it πŸ˜›

What is your favorite color, and what is your favorite nerdy thing corresponding to that color?

I would have to say purple. Any WoW player will know why I love purple so much, even if purple is seemingly the new green!

Now! Onto my nominations!

Drum roll, please…

I have nominated each of you because I think you are pretty awesome, you have an absolute tonne of talent, and more people need to be reading your stuff! Hopefully you will be as honoured to participate as I was πŸ™‚

Now for your questions:

  1. What inspired you to start blogging?
  2. If you won a free ticket to Blizzcon, what panels would you be most excited about seeing?
  3. How do you balance time in-game with your ‘RL’ commitments?
  4. If World of Warcraft shut down its servers tomorrow (Or you aren’t currently playing), what would you be playing instead?
  5. Are there any bloggers out there who you aspire to be like? What is it about them that you love?
  6. Are you brave enough to show us your gaming set up?
  7. At what age would you let your children (Real or hypothetical) start playing video games?
  8. You have a weekend of interruption free gaming ahead of you. What essential supplies do you stock up on to get you through it?
  9. If you could pick any job in the gaming industry, what would it be?
  10. Have you ever done any gaming cosplay?
  11. What is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen done in an MMO or multi-player game?

Good luck, have fun! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with.

I love your answers! I wish I had any idea how to really build my readership–I’m two years in and I still feel like a giant doofus!

P.S. I also shamelessly stole the quote from Brooke, who nominated me πŸ™‚

    • I swear it’s a just never-ending process of networking, updating and interacting with people on social media. I went AWOL for a few months when we moved interstate and I’m -still- trying to claw my way back to where I was before the break. I really believe that if I had money to spend on more ads, FB promotions and competitions, I would get there much sooner. I just want to meet ALL the nerdy parents! Oh well πŸ™‚

Hmm, maybe I should edit that line and mention Brooke as well, then. Thanks for the heads up!

      • Amanda Brand

I’m not sure where she got it, either. Maybe from the person who nominated her?

  • Rhyannon

Neri, I’m glad I don’t have to answer the same questions you did, otherwise my responses would be almost identical to yours. We have A LOT in common! Thank you soooo much for the nomination, it’s an honor and way cool πŸ˜€

    • You clearly have exceptional taste in sci-fi and games! πŸ˜€

My pleasure! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  • Syrco

Thank you! πŸ˜€ Never heard of it before but it looks like fun and I can’t wait to write my post. But do I have to nominate people who haven’t already been nominated? And should I come up with my own questions for them? And how much time do I have to do all this?

    • I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

It just says to nominate 11 up and coming bloggers. I did a check to see if you guys had written anything similar just so it would be a pleasant surprise for you all. Some people have chosen not to nominate anyone, others have picked fewer than 11 to nominate. It’s entirely up to you!

But yes, you are meant to come up with your own questions, and there’s no time limit. It’s just a bit of fun and a good way to network with other bloggers. Please do not feel obligated to do anything!

      Thanks for commenting πŸ™‚

  • Thanks Neri! <3 I shall save my responses to be on my new domain once it's all set up this week!

    • Woohoo! I can’t wait to see what you come up with, both with the new site and your answers πŸ˜€

  • Ken Koury

Thanks, Neri! I finally responded to your questions at my blog.

    • My pleasure! I shall head over to your blog and have a gander now. I hope you enjoyed it! πŸ™‚
