#Fandom5 – Shows I Love To Binge Watch

One of the few downsides of living in the land down under is that most online games generally have maintenance smack bang in the middle of our prime play time. For example, Battle.net went down for four hours of maintenance at 3am PDT… which is 6pm here. Thanks for ruining my Friday night plans, Blizz!

Anyhow, instead of weeping that I cannot play Hearthstone (Seriously, I even just got booted from the EU servers 🙁 ) I generally use the free time to catch up on my favourite shows. Read on after the jump to see my top five binge-worthy, maintenance night gap filler shows.

Orphan Black

Tatiana Maslany is an incredibly talented actress, I wish I had a friend like Felix, and I just want to give Helena a massive hug. I can’t wait for the next episode, due out this weekend.

For a show that has only aired nine episodes so far, I feel a real connection with the characters. The script writing is just top notch in this show, the humour is right up my alley, and, oh god, the latest episode was just brilliant, if not slightly depressing. I feel like I really need to hunt down a box set of Veronica Mars now.

The Flash

It took me a fair bit to warm up to The Flash, but now I honestly prefer it over its big brother, Arrow. The previews of next week’s season finale has me incredibly excited!

Misfits is by no means a new show, but thanks to Netflix I am finally catching up. There are a few plot holes that really annoy me, but the biggest thing that is throwing me for a six right now is seeing Iwan Rheon playing a good guy instead of that disgusting piece of #$@% Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones.

This is the one show that I truly binged on; Disco and I watched it over a course of a few days. It was such a tight storyline, and I just could not tear my eyes away from it (Unless something gross was going down, of course…). I am so glad that it got renewed for Season 2!

Are you a fan of any of these shows? Let’s geek out with me about them in the comments below (Please, I’m begging you. I really want to fangirl squeal some more!)

ALL the Daredevil! I plan on binging again soon!

    • I’ve been considering doing the same myself, and I am generally not one to watch a series twice!

  • Stephanie

Alright so my coworker just raves about Misfits, is it really worth it?

    • The lead guy is a bit of a dick sometimes, and the humour probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (They are young offenders, after all!) but I really enjoy it. It’s great for those days where you still want a dose of sci-fi but you don’t really want to think too hard about what you’re watching.

  • The Flash is good. I recognize all of its flaws, but I just can’t care enough about them to not love everything else. In the same way the first Marvel movies brought comics to life, I think The Flash has done an amazing job embracing the source material on the television screen. I did watch the first two seasons of Arrow, but I was turned off by the third. It just seems too grimdark to no real end for my tastes. The Flash is far superior!

    • Agreed. I struggled with the way they handled Iris at the start because all that secrets crap is exactly what I hate about Arrow!

The third season of Arrow is by far the worst. Have you watched the season finale?

      • I’ve read about it. Seemed silly.

        • Yeah, it was pretty bad. There were a few cool moments, but most were overshadowed by the fail 🙁

  • Kay

I feel like the internet would explode if Daredevil DIDN’T get a second season!! And with good reason; it’s fantastic! I wish I had a way to watch Orphan Black as I’ve heard nothing but good things!! And I can’t wait for Flash to come to Netflix, also heard nothing but good things about it! Great picks!

    • Haha, yeah, the rage would be strong! I’m definitely interested to see where they go with it in season two, especially with a certain player’s escape.

I wish Orphan Black got more attention, as it really is quite brilliant.

  • Man, Daredevil is a popular one for this week’s topic!! Don’t blame anybody, that show is amazing. Also, yay, Orphan Black! ^.^

    • Haha, yep, can’t deny that it is utterly brilliant. It’s honestly how I imagined a superhero adaptation should be.

  • Ari Carr

I love Daredevil! It’s so awesome.

    • Isn’t it? A friend of mine posted on Facebook that they were three episodes in and were having a hard time enjoying it, and the following comments were just a stream of “Madness!” 😛

  • Great picks!

  • Dahakha

Aaaaaahhhhhhhh Misfits is the BEST! I saw it before GoT ever started so my shock was seeing him as the evil Bolton bastard. I dunno how far through you are but the first three seasons are terrific! Don’t go past that though, all the original characters are gone and the new ones are bad. So bad.

    • Dahakha

What plot holes annoy you? I can’t remember offhand any major ones…

      • I just started season 4 and I don’t think I even finished the first episode. Love the original cast too much!

The biggest issue I have is at the end of season 3 when Alishia gets stabbed by the poltergeist, and Simon decides that it’s time to go back and save her from the original death. Like, couldn’t he also tell her, “PS. Don’t be in the building between these times or you’re going to die” instead of the whole, “They’ll just live forever in a time loop” or whatever it was.

Aside from that, it’s awesome, silly fun and I love throwing on a few episodes when RL is being a bit of a jerk.

        • Dahakha

Ah yeah. I have two reasons why I justified not being annoyed by that:
          1) Wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Don’t mess around with time paradoxes, m’kay? It’s bound to end in tears for the writers and viewers both.
          2) A time loop wraps up the show’s main plotline nicely. It feels like they only planned the 3 seasons and then due to popularity were told to make more, and had no time to rewrite the main plot. If they’d had Simon tell Alishia about the death thing when he went back, then I’d want to know how that changed things, and would be mad they didn’t explore that. So, I’m content with how they ended things.

PS have seen first 2 seasons of Orphan Black and loved it. Totally agree with your assessment of her acting abilities!

          • You know what, I think I probably would have been a bit happier with it had the show completely ended there, but since I was watching on Netflix I knew there was more to come.

Glad you’re loving Orphan Black! I want to geek out so badly about how season 3 is playing out, but no-one is really up to it yet. Let me know if you do get your hands on it 😛

  • I watched the first ep of Orphan Black and then binge watched several other shows like Arrow, Pretty Little Liars and Daredevil. Now that I’ve seen a lot of the stuff I wanted to on Netflix, I’ve gone back to watch Orphan Black after your recommendation. I’ve just started the second season and you’re right, she’s a really versatile actress.

    • I’ve heard a lot of people talk about Pretty Little Liars, but I’ve never actually watched any of it.

Season two is probably my favourite. So many twists! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🙂

  • Jaina

Could easily binge watch Daredevil, even though I’m only a few episodes in. Could have if a) had Netflix in this country and b) Had a decent Internet connection! Ah well, just have to have it drip fed into me.

I binge watched the first two seasons of Orphan Black. Though now, with the current season, I’m losing interest! It’s gone a little too far off the deep end.

    • The Castor boys and their story is intriguing me, but I can see that it could get a bit much if handled wrong. After watching episode 5 I’m definitely more interested than I was after the end of episode 4.

      • Jaina

True, after the 5th I feel more in it. But miss a lot of the clone interaction from previous seasons.

  • Syrco

The Flash is one of my favorite new TV shows! Just watched the season final yesterday 😀

    • Oh my goodness, how good was that ending! I bawled like baby at that… bit in the middle (Trying not to spoil it for anyone who may not have seen it yet). and the ending! Eek! Had anyone said to me when I watched the first episode that it would end that way, I would have thought they were watching a different show. Definitely one of my faves as well!

  • I love Daredevil! Oh my gosh so good!!!! I was so surprised. The only problem was that every time I saw Deborah Ann Kroll I would be like where are her fangs?!?!

Loving Black Sails, Vikings, and The 100, although it is a CW show and most of the cast is from Australia/New Zealand hahah 😛 they are all great actors and the show is 1000 times better than the books. Which just says to me that they hired not only a great cast but even better writers.

    • Oooh, I’ve heard about the 100 a few times, but as my husband likes to joke, I am basically a cave troll when it comes to keeping up with current entertainment. I’ll have to check it out!

  • I haven’t watched izombie yet but honestly keep reading about it on people’s blogs… I need to catch up! It’s on fox right? I THINK?

    • I don’t know, sorry! As an Australian I have to source it through… alternative methods.
